US$1,000,000 allocated by Prince Talal International Prize to honor winning projects in the field of “No Poverty” the first goal of the SDGs

“Water and Sanitation ” is the subject of 2019 Prince Talal International  Prize The Arab Gulf Programme for Development (AGFUND) announced the winners of Prince Talal International Prize for Human Development for the year 2018 in the field “ End of poverty in all its forms everywhere “. These projects were approved by the Prize Committee in its 20th Meeting, held in Geneva on April 29th, 2019. The Committee has approved 4 winners among 166 projects from 78 countries that competed for the Prize in the field of “No poverty” the first goal of the 2030 Agenda . These projects were evaluated by a team of specialized experts where the evaluation process is conducted based on a set of specific criteria. The winner of the First Category Prize (US$ 400,000), which is specified for projects implemented by UN, international or regional organizations, is Reducing Poverty and Gender Inequality in Sarepul province of Afghanistan” implemented by Hand in Hand International in Afghanistan. The Second Category Prize (US$ 300,000) allocated for projects implemented by national NGOs is approved for “Addressing Food Insecurity Through Modern Farming Techniques”, Implemented by Dandora Dumpsite Rehabilitation Group (DADREG) in Kenya. The third Category Prize (US$ 200,000) specified for projects implemented by national government agencies and public institutions and social enterprises is approved for “YouthConnekt (under Youth and Women’s Employment Programme)”, Implemented by Ministry of Youth, Republic of Rwanda in Rwanda. The fourth Category Prize (US$100,000) allocated for projects implemented by individuals is approved for “New life”, implemented in Egypt, upon the initiative and effort of Ms. Nawal Mostafa. The Committee has also approved the 6th goal of the 2030 Agenda “Water and Sanitation” As the subject for Prince Talal International Prize for Human Development 2019.

It is worth mentioning that, following the passing away of HRH Prince Talal bin Abdul Aziz, in December 2018, the Board of Directors of AGFUND has decided to rename AGFUND Prize after Him, to be “Prince Talal International Prize for Human Development.” This decision was taken to commemorate the Late Prince, who dedicated his life to human development and the fight against poverty through AGFUND and other institutions that he established.
