AGFUND and OCHA respond to humanitarian needs in Yemen and Syria

The Arab Gulf Programme for Development, AGFUND, yesterday announced a US$300,000 contribution to OCHA’s Humanitarian Funds in Yemen and Syria.

"People in Yemen and Syria are exhausted by these crises that just keep grinding on and the most vulnerable among them urgently need humanitarian help," said UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Martin Griffiths. "Our pooled funds are a direct link between donors and the organizations working on the ground delivering food and other critical supplies and services to people. I thank the Arab Gulf Programme for Development for being part of this work with their timely contribution."

yesterday's signing ceremony took place in the Palais des Nations in Geneva in the margins of the Award Ceremony for the Prince Talal International Prize for Human Development, an annual prize of $1,000,000 sponsored by AGFUND.

“This contribution seeks to address the urgent needs of people in Yemen and Syria,” noted HRH Prince Abdul Aziz bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, President of AGFUND. “We are pleased to partner with OCHA to help ensure that poor, marginalized, and internally displaced people in Yemen and Syria receive support for their health, food and nutrition, education, and social protection needs.”
