Chaired by HRH Prince Abdul Aziz bin Talal bin Abdul Aziz, AGFUND’s Board approves financing 14 projects in areas that contribute to achieve the goals of sustainable development

The Board of Directors of the Arab Gulf Programme for Development (AGFUND) held its semi-annual meeting this afternoon chaired by His Royal Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Talal bin Abdulaziz, President of AGFUND, to discuss and approve development projects,in addition to reviewing AGFUND’s achievements during the year 2022.

The Board has approved fourteen projects in the field of food security, early childhood, climate change, women's empowerment, the health sector (vaccines and training for health personnel), financial inclusion. These projects are implemented in cooperation with a number of institutions, including: the League of Arab States, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the Arab Coordination Group, the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood in the UAE, the Ministry of Social Development in the Sultanate of Oman, Al-Amal Microfinance Bank in Yemen and the Global Executive Leadership Initiative (GELI). In addition to a capacity building projects for AGFUND’s sister organizations.

The Board were briefed on AGFUND's achievements during the year 2022, which focused on supporting food security through smallholder farmers agricultural insurance project for weather risks, which aims to provide high-quality seeds, linking with supply chains, and accessing financial services, including electronic transfers. Currently, AGFUND is expanding this initiative by establishing Farmers Hub in Arab and African countries.

On the other hand, a project to use renewable energy to improve the quality of life in Yemen is being implemented in cooperation with the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen and Selah Foundation for Development for five Yemeni governorates, benefiting 62,514 beneficiaries.

The Board commended AGFUND's participation in the Conference of Parties 27 held in Sharm El Sheikh, which included a series of sessions highlighting best practices and solutions in climate mitigation, adaptation and building resilience in addition to honoring the “Climate Action” winners of the 2022 Prince Talal International Prize for Human Development during the Award Ceremony.
