CONGRESSIONAL GOLD MEDAL CEREMONY IN HONOR OF PROFESSOR MUHAMMAD YUNUS Leaders of the U.S. House and Senate bestowed the Congressional Gold Medal award to Professor Muhammad Yunus in recognition of his efforts to combat global poverty. Through his creative ideas, hard work and brilliant implementation of the idea of microcredit throughout Bangladesh and globally, Prof Yunus has made brilliant contributions in the cause of helping millions of poor, especially women, take charge of their lives to overcome heartbreaking poverty. Congress voted to award the medal to Professor Yunus in 2010. The Gold Medal represents Congress’s highest expression of national appreciation for distinguished achievements and contributions. The ceremony held on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. ET in Rotunda of the United States Capitol.
