Financial Inclusion and UN 2030 Agenda

AGFUND adopts the principle of non-discrimination between the societies in offering its development support because “the human being is the human being wherever exists”.

The Arab Gulf Programme for Development (AGFUND) develops a strategy that tackles the roots of human development problems. This is stressed by HRH Prince Talal bin Abdulaziz, the President of AGFUDN, when he says: “We are living in a world that reshapes itself. We believe in the United Nations’ role in making peace and achieving sustainable development through strengthening the means of partnership and cooperation, which contribute to creating our joint future”.. AGFUND adopts the principle of non-discrimination between the societies in offering its development support because “the human being is the human being wherever exists”.

Consequently, the UN honored Prince Talal in 2000 in the tenure of the former UN Secretary, Kofi Annan, and granted him the its high-ranking medal in an appreciation for his efforts in sustainable development and human action.

Thanks to his vision, AGFUND remained coping with the progress of the development but launching initiatives that address the main issues of development imbalance.. So, when the UN announced the Millennium Goals at the outset of the 21thcentury, the issues addressed by these goals were not new to AGFUND as it proceeded to tackle them since the middle of the 1990s. In 1997, HRH Prince launched the initiative to establish banks specialized in achieving financial inclusion for the poor. Afterwards, the “Millennium Goals” called for reducing poverty by 50%.. and efficiently taking part in solving other problems which mostly result from the repercussions of poverty; a matter which reveals the critical circle in which poverty captures the vulnerable groups.

When the UN launched the “Sustainable Development Agenda 2030” with the 17 goals and their 169 targets, AGFUND has gone far in the majority of the Agenda’s issues and goals..

In this release, we present the AGFUND’s practical vision in dealing with the goal that leads the 2030 UN Agenda namely “eradicaing poverty in all its forms everywhere”.
