The Women’s Cooperative Society in Al Qassim (Herfa) was established upon the initiative and support of Her Highness Princess Nora Bint Mohammed Bin Saud, who believes in the importance of supporting the artisans and productive families and the preservation of the national heritage. Herfah’s with a membership is composed of female academics, businesswomen, female employees and craftswomen, who became convinced of the idea and objectives of the association. Herfah is considered to be the first multi-purpose women’s cooperative association in the Kingdom in general and in Qassim region in particular. It aims to contribute to the empowerment of women and enhancing their role in various fields of development, and develop their artistic, technical, marketing and administrative abilities as required by the labor market, in addition moreover it endeavors to preserve the heritage of Saudi Arabia and confirm the Saudi craft identity.
Among the most important plans, Herfah working on is the emphasize and consolidation of the concept of sustainability of the artisanal work, and convert Herfa from an organization relying on subsidies to a productive one. It has therefore established the first training center for craftswomen and female youth in Qassim to provide training in various professional fields including trades, technology, social care, marketing, business management, public relations and hospitality skills, in addition to awareness programs in the field of Saudi heritage and computer. Herfah organized national campaign to preserve the heritage and market its products, and provide a variety of opportunities for sponsorship and design to the interested companies through a multi-channel marketing campaign.
